Love Niche at the Living North Christmas Fair.

We posted on our Twitter and Facebook offering tickets for the Living North Fair which was held at Newcastle Racecourse at the beginning of the month and we received so much interest. Even so we were amazed at the amount of lovely people who visited our stall at the 4 daylong Christmas event. Especially given how frantically we were rushing around to get our stall looking as gorgeous as possible.

ikea, lights,

With a quick pit stop to Ikea to buy decorations for our stand to make it look as gorgeous as possible we were all ready to go. Our hard work paid off as we received so many compliments on our stands appearance, most people asking us where are lights were from, so we let them in on our little secret.

As well as our gorgeous lighting, our customer’s absolutely loved the Studio Collection, which was flying off the rails. Our most popular items from both the Studio Collection and Love Niche London diffusion line had to be our gorgeous fur trimmed poncho, perfect for keeping warm this winter. Our fur collar was also very popular amongst buyers, the perfect addition to a winter wardrobe. Ideal to throw over a coat, a top or even wear with an evening dress.

This week’s style tip.

photo (26)The Apple body type is most misconstrued shape with a lot of people thinking that it is the shape for a larger woman, this is so far from the truth! If you are an apple shape it means that you have a wider torso, therefor lacking a defined waist, you have broad shoulders, generally a fantastic bust, slim arms and legs and normally quite a flat bottom.

Now, to dress an apple shape it is pretty straight forward. You need to avoid billowing shapeless tops with no structure as they will make you look larger than you are as it has no waist definition, especially paired with black leggings as they make your slim legs look even slimmer! You should go for tops which have a built in waist for example try an empire line style as this will pull you in under your bust and skim over your stomach, a very flattering style for you! Also try a wrap top as they also give you definition. However if you were to wear a shapeless top then just pair it with a skinny belt so it will cinch in your waist giving your body shape. Remember you should try to go for longer tops which stop after your hips, tunics should be a staple in your wardrobe.

Necklines in dresses and tops; go for v-necks to show off some of that fantastic cleavage, plunging necklines, strapless or scoop necks also look good on you. Please avoid high necklines such as polo necks, off the shoulder, boat neck and halter necks are also not the greatest style for you. These will all make you shoulders look too broad, something you want to avoid.

Trousers and jeans look amazing on your with those fab pins! But avoid skinny black jeans, it will only make your legs look too slim making your proportions off. Try a bootcut or flare jean to balance out your shoulders. Straight leg trousers are always a winner too! To make your bottom look a bit fuller try going for jeans or trousers which have big pockets on the bum.

Now we have picked 3 looks for the studio for you to try. First up we have a work wear look. This look is perfect for autumn, the black oversized ‘coatigan’ is perfect for your shape as it still has structure, it is a longer style so it is an ideal length for you. The oversized collar creates a v slimming you middle. The white blouse looks great to create a monochrome look, again with a V-neck to flatter your bust. The trousers are slightly high waisted, which we recommend for your shape, they are slim leg but with the monochrome pattern they don’t make your legs look too slim. photo 1 (41)photo 2 (43)photo 3 (34)Being slightly top heavy you might feel like you can’t pull off a fur coat, however this ostrich feather coat is the ideal coat for you as it has a wide leather waistband to give your waist definition! It also has a V-neck so again this is very flattering for your shape. Teamed with slim leg black trousers this look is a winner for A/W! The dark blonde fur is also a fantastic colour this season. photo 4 (29)photo 5 (19)When picking an evening dress to wear we would recommend you picking mini or midi styles, to show off some leg! As these a/w months can get very cold so we have picked a midi to show you. This style is very flattering for you, it is fitted but not clingy and the black side panels give the illusion of an hourglass figure! The reptile print is a major trend this season also! The gold plate belt adds further waist definition. We have teamed it with one of our favourite fur pashminas and statement stud bag. photo 2 (45)photo 3 (36)

This week’s styling tip.

photo 1 (1)This is our second post in the body shape series, where we are focusing on the fabulous ‘Hourglass’ figure! The hourglass is classed at the ideal fantasy figure for a woman, with equal proportions, gorgeous curves, ample bust, slender waist yet still with hips, thigh and a good bum! This body shape might sound easy enough to style and think that with the good proportions they would suit everything, however it can actually be one of the most difficult shapes to dress right!

If you are an hourglass you may find that when you go into some stores, especially the higher end stores that it can be a challenge to find clothes that suit your shape, and this is because designers tend to make clothes for a straight up and down figure. If you like to wear luxurious clothes you will find it easier to shop in a luxury boutique/fashion studio.

This season every hourglass should have in her wardrobe; a fitted crisp white shirt ( the fitted shirt was made you!) a pencil skirt to show off those curves, either a wrap or an a-line skirt dress. Some killer jeans, steer away from a flare leg, however if you like bootcut jeans go for a dark wash and make sure they have large pockets on the bum. Straight/slim leg trousers and jeans work best for you as they show off your curves and legs, try to stay away from light wash jeans. The a-line skirt paired with a fitted top with flatter your figure to no end, wearing a dress or skirt with a slight peplum will also show off your curves however do not go over the top with the peplum as one with too much volume will just make your hips look larger than they are.

If you are a petite hourglass try and find slim trousers and jeans which are slightly high waisted as they will elongate your legs as well as drawing in your waist. Avoid clothes with no shape and definition as they will do nothing for your figure and if anything they will just make you look frumpy. Also avoid hip pockets as this will make you look disproportionate.

For the colder months when choosing your a/w coat, go for a coat which has a belt or a define waist, a mac is the ideal coat for you. Also try a cropped jacket/biker leather jacket (totally on trend!) by wearing a cropped jacket it will draw in your waist and show it off. Stay away from boxy jackets even if they are on trend this season!!

We have styled 3 outfits, 1 look with a pencil skirt, 1 with a dress and cropped fur and 1 trouser look, to show you how we would style your body shape during this season!

First we have a work wear look with a pencil skirt, which will hug your curves and show off your waist. This skirt is in a must have colour of the season; berry! We have teamed it with a fitted white shirt which has unique box pleat details around the neck and on the cuff of the sleeves. By adding one of our new belts that have just landed in the studio for A/W13 it has taken this look from day to night, finish this look off by adding a clutch, some heels and a berry lip.photo 1 (40)photo 3 (32)Next up is our autumnal dress look. This lightweight jumper dress is an extremely versatile piece to have in your wardrobe, you can dress it up or down, we have added a cropped berry fur bolero jacket which is gorgeous for your shape. We would finish this look with some earrings a slick ponytail and a heel. This dress has no waist definition so we have added a tan belt to draw in the waist to give more shape. Just because a dress has no definition at the waist does not mean that you can’t style it to suit your shape. photo 4 (28)photo 5 (18)Last is our trouser look. These casual trousers come in black, maroon, navy and a light brown and are perfect for hourglass and triangle shapes, they skim over the hips, are ever so slightly high waisted and are a straight cut so they don’t cling to your ankle. The faux leather waist band adds texture. We have dressed this look up slightly with a gorgeous black jumper which has beautiful embellished shoulders, everybody loves a bit of bling! Again to take this look to an evening we have added a clutch bag, also team with a heel, a red lip for a pop of colour and let your hair down. photo 2 (42)photo 3 (33)Which look do you like best?! Next week we will be doing a post for inverted triangles!

This week’s styling tip.

photo 5 (17)

With the sudden change in weather last week we all realised that autumn was here! We have packed all our summer clothes away for another year and brought out the knits, furs and leathers.

Autumn is the perfect season for knits, you can wear a jumper or cardigan to keep warm without a coat. So this season the must have way to wear your knits is oversized. With a key trend being “borrowed from the boys” this season we should be thinking oversized, elbow patches, leather details, patchwork and large collars when buying new knits.

We have put together 3 looks for you to show you how we will be wearing our oversized knits, we have many styles/shapes/colours available in the studio to suit everyone.

First up we have this gorgeous heavy knitted oversized collar cardigan, we like to call it a coatigan, as it acts like a coat during the autumn. This is the perfect piece for layering, we have styled with a thin knit jumper in gorgeous warm colours. The skinny black trousers keep this look classic, however you could wear coloured jeans or add some texture with leather trousers. Simple silver jewellery finishes this look perfectly. photo 2 (38)photo 1 (37)Our second look is for those who like to wear colourful knits. Yellow is a surprisingly big colour this season, normally we associate yellow with spring/summer however it is brightening up our wardrobes this autumn! This oversized waterfall cardigan in patchwork is another gorgeous layering piece to add to any wardrobe which could be styled for day or night. We have styled it with a cream drape blouse (worn open in the photo) with a vest layered underneath, and staple black trousers which tie in with the black and grey colours on the knit.photo 4 (26)photo 3 (30)Our final look is more casual, we love the contrast between skinny leggings and the heavily oversized off the shoulder jumper. This jumper is so luxurious, it is super soft, mohair knits are the most wanted knits of the season. We have styled this look with a woolen scarf which has a tartan print (must have print of the season!) this scarf actually has a tiger printed on it, with the tiger being tartan, you can just make out his head & tail! The blue tartan also matches the dark rich blue leggings.photo 1 (38)photo 2 (39)Will you be wearing your knits oversized this autumn? …we hope so!

This weeks styling tip.

photo 2 (34)The pastel trend has been big all year, so Autumn/Winter is no exception, except you swap your pastel cami tops for chunky knit pastel jumpers and your short shorts for thick woolen tights.

Every season we create mood boards to help us focus on the trends of the moment, so to help inspire you too here is one of our mood boards for the pastel trend!photo 1 (32)We have decided to show you some of our pastel outfits which are our in the studio at the moment , two day outfits by Love Niche and two evening outfits which are Niche by Nisha Vedhara.

First up is a look using one of our favourite fur gilets! A tip would be when wearing pastels its good to use another bold colour to break up the look to stop it from being too washed out, if you wear pastels wrong they can drain you! So we have layered the gilet over the long sleeved plum top, by keeping it in the same color family we have added extra warmth to this look. Wearing white trousers with this outfit keeps it looking light and fresh, you could also wear another colour but try to avoid black as it would darken this look too much. photo 3 (26)photo 2 (35)Our second day look is more of an autumn look, with a simple pastel jumper with some gorgeous bead work across the shoulders. To keep the autumnal chill away we would suggest styling with a scarf which is again in the same colour family. This scarf is one of our favourites as it has beautiful golden shimmer lace detail. We think this is the perfect outfit for a “ladies who lunch” or afternoon tea date. photo 5 (14)photo 4 (22)Our first evening look is one from the Niche by Nisha Vedhara collection. The perfect dress for aumtumn/winter. With the long sleeves, the layered top that gives off 1920’s vibe, we are in love with this dress! The golden lace shimmer top adds that extra wow factor. Paired with the gold clutch with oversized jewels, a killer heel and you’re set for the night. This is the ultimate christmas dress! photo 3 (27)photo 4 (23)Our final look, which was part of our fashion show earlier this year, is another Niche By Nisha Vedhara dress. This dress is ideal for the festive period, with swarovski crystals, satin bow and lace sleeves, how can you not love this dress?! The beautiful model Lucy wore hers with red stiletto heels for a pop of colour.

Paris Fashion Week aw13

Even though summer is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to don our bikinis and shorts while basking in the sun (ahh!), the A/W 13 collections from Fashion Week have us lusting and we are excited to go and get our A/W wardrobe!

All the shows from Milan, New York, London finishing up Paris were outstanding in our opinion this year. However we thought that Paris stole the limelight with some amazing shows;

From Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, who showed a gorgeous ‘foxy‘ collection, he admitted after the show that “I’ve fallen in love with fashion again” By looking through the collection, this shows and he is very much back on the game! His “foxy lady” show was fairly colourless for the first dozen looks with a monochrome colour scheme shown in houndstooth, thick chain printed dresses, large tartan check coats and his infamous blanket dresses. However it is the enormous fox heads integrated onto tartan mini dresses that spun the heads of the fashion crowd! He then introduced blues and oranges for the rest of the collection and wowed with beautifully abstract colourful prints and black and bright orange furs.

The creative behind Hermes; Christophe Lemoire captured a thoroughly pure french chic spirit in this collection for this fall, that seemed almost darkly romantic. Earthly tones were side by side with textured monochrome throughout the show with a pop of magenta for a colour boost. This palette was displayed through oversized almost mannish coats and soft-shouldered draped cape-like overthings, mid calf skirts, high waisted gray flannel trousers and beautiful crisp fitted shirts. Texture played a huge part in the Hermes collection this season, think sheen black ponyskin coats and tops tucked into high waisted tailored trousers, suede trouser suits, long navy woolen coats with black leather and fur details, grey furs, leather and pony skin waist coats in camel and beautiful croc skin pencil skirt.

Unkle Karl (as defined by Nik Thakkar, check out his amazing blog karlismyunkle) has done it again for a/w 13-14, the Chanel show was simply exquisite. ” I’ve got my feet on the ground, but the collection is ‘up’ to Earth, not ‘down’ to Earth” From this glorious show you can see exactly what he means, it was energetic, confident, eye catching and one of the most clothes-packed runways we’ve seen with a massive 80 looks (impressive!) The majestic globe sets the scene for a very memorable collection, it was dark as night and so were the clothes, but not dull and depressing, in fact it was alight with a magical sparkle. The collection was very simple in colour mainly consisting of blacks/grey, however this did not make for a boring same old show, in fact the dark tweeds were woven with metallic threads making them glitter when light was cast on them. Layering was heavily featured, long coats that were oversize with large collars, low waisted dresses with pleated skirts, tweed suits; jackets and mini skirts in pastel hues were shown with knee high leather boots to give an edge to an otherwise sickly feminine look. Leathers, tweed, fur, and cable knitted wool were the main bulk of the collection, towards the end black chiffon was introduced, creating a very sexy yet chic look combined with fur trims and leather details including amazing 3D flower embellishments. Karl also designs the most amazing accessories, this year it was the head-wear that caught our eye the most, the unusual fur helmets that were shown in lots of different colours! Which are  (said Lagerfeld)  facsimiles of Anna Wintour herself iconic bob hairstyle!

Now a quick mention to “Saint Laurent”. With this being Hedi Slimane’s second collection for Saint Laurent we were intrigued as to what he was going to produce for the fashion house, and we were all (bloggers, media, frow-ers!!) shocked to say the least! The collection divided the fashion critics, with some applauding the designer for giving the brand a change of direction and revamping their look,  we most definitely do NOT agree!! We don’t feel that 90’s grunge is the way forward for “Yves” Saint Laurent as it is such a legendary name (please say this is just a midlife crisis!)

(Even the models are miserable wearing this collection!!!)
