The best New Year’s Eve outfits are ones that don’t hold back on glamour or sparkle. This Season is the best excuse to dress up and the perfect reason to spend on a party dress. Whether you’re gearing up for a big date with your significant other, hosting a party, or something in between, here are some ideas from the  Love Niche Team to see in 2016 with style!

Iridescent

The best New Year’s Eve outfits take drama up a notch. When a little black dress just won’t do, step up the look and stand out in sequins.         Movable embellishments including oversized sequins are perfect for dancing the night away. You can never go wrong with sequins on New Years Eve. Catch everyone’s eye in a sparkling number glitter ball worthy.

When you feel you have exhausted all your party dresses earlier in the season. Think outside the typical New Year’s Eve outfits box, and opt for a jumpsuit instead! The one-piece style is totally relevant, with several options to choose from. Whether it’s a sleek black version or a statement-making backless jump suit. Be ready to strike a stunning pose in your trouser piece when the clock strikes 12!

Golden

Nothing says New Year’s Eve celebration like a sheet of solid sequins or beading. In sparkling gold, bring the glamour up a few notches with your New Year’s Eve outfit. The trick to keeping this look from getting too busy is to wear choice accessories: Minimal, tonal jewellery looks best with silver or gold! We love a pop of red on your lips ready to pout for a New years kiss.

If your not big on embellishments? New Year’s Eve outfits don’t have to sparkle to make a statement. A sexy little black dress is a fail-safe choice and a smart investment if you’re always looking at a packed social calendar. Keep it classic with a skinny belt and throw on a statement necklace and a chic faux-fur coat!

Planning a low-key dinner or a night in? Don’t completely ditch the sparkle! Try dressing up your favorite denim as for a New Year’s Eve outfit that’s equal parts glam and casual. A sequin top or jacket adds just enough sparkle. Keep accessories minimal for an effortless ensemble.

SS14 capsule wardrobe must haves.

With the weather greatly improving, we are packing away our winter clothes and dusting off our t-shirts and shorts ready for the summer months. So we thought it was time for a post about must haves for your SS14 capsule wardrobe.

Prints – Prints are a major trend this season, with everything from florals, spots, stripes, animal prints and novelty prints such as digital vintage cars and bicycles. In the studio, we are especially loving printed trousers, our favourite are these stunning snake print in blue. These trousers are definitely a statement piece, but they are extremely versatile and you can style them with many items! We have a gorgeous collection of printed trousers available in the studio, check out our website to see more of our collection. blue snake print trouser

If printed trousers are not for you, we also have a stunning collection of silk digital printed tops, in a range of colours, prints, and sleeve length. Our must have, however, is the gorgeous roses printed top with lace sleeves and back, this top is bang on trend with the floral print and the see through lace, we love this top for a casual day look, teamed with light wash jeans, or shorts during hotter months, and a chunky wedge heel! DSC_8340-copy DSC_8343-copyFor a statement evening dress, this Dolce & Gabbana inspired roman coin dress in emerald green is definitely a head turner! Keep hair either big and bouncy or in a top knot with a contrasting deep red lip for extra wow factor! dolce & gabanna inspired dressPastels – Pastels are huge this season, in every hue from candyfloss pink and baby blues to light tans and beige to all white looks. Pastels are one of our favourite trends here at the Love Niche studio, our favourite colour being light pink shades. We adore these lightweight soft suede material jackets with the waterfall front, they are very flattering and versatile. You can dress them up for an evening or a chic daytime look with ease. We love this all pink look for a late afternoon with girlfriends, the printed trousers are extremely flattering with a higher waist fit, the light pink vest keeps the look softer instead of bright white. Team with tan or nude accessories to keep the look fresh, try to avoid black as it can be too harsh against pastel outfits. DSC_8218-copy

Leather – During hotter months you wouldn’t expect leather to be a key texture to your capsule wardrobe, but we love it! When we say leather, we don’t mean heavy leather biker jackets. Leather has had a feminine overhaul, with lightweight leather jackets with waterfall fronts, or in pastel shades! In the studio this season we have a small collection of summer leather, including a stunning two piece pencil skirt (faux leather) and real soft leather waterfall front jacket with silver beading details. Team this two piece with a plain white vest to keep it fresh and light for spring, the perfect work wear outfit. You can also team this jacket with your classic little black dress for an evening look or white skinny jeans for a daytime look!biege ensombleDropped waist – The dropped waist style skirts and dresses are making a big come back this season, and we love this trend, it is very 1920’s chic! Our Love Niche dropped waist skirt has been very popular so far this season, it comes in either black or cherry red. It is very flattering as it hugs your curves in the right places. We love this skirt teamed with a blouse and one of our statement leather waist belts which cinch in your waist perfectly. These skirts are definitely going to be a big hit this season! peach top with black peplum skirt

The Love Niche SS14 collection has started to come into the studio, so we thought we would give you a little sneaky preview of what trends we will be introducing this season!

First we have this lightweight cotton twin set, perfect for summer, white is a must have colour during hotter months and the beautiful striped colour block in neutral tones is bang on trend, especially with the golden metallic tone. photo 1 (47)Yellow lime is a big colour this season, we have these gorgeous fine knits in the studio in either the vest (left) or cardigan (right). Metallic stitching and stud details on the vest top. These are perfect for layering and adding texture to summer looks. photo 4 (35)This beautiful white blouse is also combining major trends with the jewelled panel down the sleeves, the light fabric and slightly boxy silhouette, can easily be dressed up or down. A must have versatile piece in any wardrobe. photo 2 (49)photo 3 (39)This jacket is possibly our favourite piece in the entire collection. The super soft leather, the waterfall open front and the silver jewel bead details, just make for a beautiful summer leather! Available in tan and pastel pink! photo 5 (22)One of our favourite trends this season is pastel leather, and this amazingly soft lightweight leather oversized collar jacket is definitely on our wish list! Perfect for summer layering and again can easily be dressed up or down depending on occasion.photo 1 (46)Pastels and prints, what a perfect combo! This fine knit printed striped jumper is a must have for S/S, ideal for those breezy summer days with skinny jeans and jewelled flats! photo 4 (33)As well as pastels being a huge trends, bright neons are also a must have, especially during the summer months! We absolutely adore it, ideal for a glam event! photo 1 (48)

Trend of the week – SS14 textures

Textures are a big deal when styling during all seasons. A lot of people associate textures mainly with A/W for layering, however textures during S/S months are a MUST. S/S14 is a season full of texture, some you would expect, such as; lace, chiffons, lightweight linens and cottons. But this season we have also been introduced to Summer leather and lots of heavy embellishment which are definitely heavier textures.

LACE – This SS14 lace has been a favourite of many designers, varying from all over lace to slight feminine lace trims and details. We are big fans of lace here at Love Niche too, so this trend is a favourite of ours. Burberry has shown lace is every way, from all over pastel blue and lilac delicate lace dresses to sheer candyfloss pink lace pencil skirts to lace blouses. Tom Ford showed a daring lace ensemble with black barely there lace in a 3 piece! Dolce & Gabbana wowed us with their SS14 collection, the black lace dress is a winner in our eyes with statement pleated sleeves teamed with high-waist hot pants and bandeau.ss14 lace

SHEER – Sheer fabrics and S/S are a must have combination, and this year it is no exception! Sheer has been shown in abundance this season, everything from silks, chiffons and gauze. Vera Wang layered her colourful sheer fabric looks for a summer chic look. J.W Anderson created some interesting folk style sheer maxi dresses with elasticated bands. For an evening look take inspiration from Tom Ford with stunning sheer length dresses.SS14 Sheer

LEATHER – An unusual texture for S/S as we generally associate leather with A/W and keeping warm. However leather has had a S/S overhaul, every thing from leather trousers, maxi skirts, jackets and dresses! Tom Ford is one of our favourite collection for leather inspiration this season, we are loving the white biker jackets and tan leather dresses! J.W Anderson has shown leather maxi skirts with sheer crop tops, texture at its best! We are also loving Dolce & Gabbana’s deep maroon leather dress with boxy 3/4 sleeves. For safari chic we love the mustard yellow croc effect leather tie skirt from Hermès. SS14 Leather

JEWELS AND METALLICS – The glitz and glam heavily jewelled looks are normally a favourite during A/W running up to the festive season, however this S/S just had a bling makeover! We have seen crystal and sequin covered dresses, heavily embellished pencil skirts, crystal and beaded trousers and jewel mosaic two pieces! Burberry has again mastered the embellished crystal look with jewelled skirts and pastel tees. Lanvin is all about the metallic fabric this season with a stunning collection. We love Isabel Marant’s fabulous jewelled trousers, perfect for an edgy summer evening outfit!SS14 Jewels and metallicsImage credit to style.com

SS14 earrings!

The new season is gradually starting to come in to the Love Niche Studio! Since the weather is still pretty gloomy and we can’t don our favourite S/S14 trends just yet, we have been looking for a way to introduce a bit of summer into our daily looks. Luckily, the new collection of Love Niche earrings has arrived! Everything from nude pastels, coloured stones, crystals and pearls!

We love these cream and gold disc earrings with pearl details. They could easily be worn day to night, for any occasion! For an evening look sleek your hair back off your face and let the earrings do the talking, wear with your favourite LBD and killer heels, add a red lip for extra wow factor! photo 1 (18)These stunning crescent moon earrings are perfect for an evening look! They will definitely make heads turn with the crystal and pearl details.  Either wear with a gorgeous dress or even try with leather trousers and a deep lipstick for more of an edgy glam look!photo 3 (13)We can’t get enough of these round turquoise stone earrings! They are ideal for adding a pop of colour during these gloomy months and will look stunning during summer with an all white look! To make the earrings pop even more try and wear with a clutch or heels the same colour. photo 2 (20)These unusual drop statement earrings are one of a kind. The coral stone is a gorgeous summer colour and looks stunning against the gold. The clear crystals give these earrings that extra wow factor and will definitely stand out against your LBD for an evening look! Again we would suggest to wear coral in other accessories such as your clutch, heels or a coral lipstick. You could also team with a coral blazer over your LBD to make the coral stone on the earrings pop and not get lost. photo 4 (10)

Love Niche How To – Winter scarves!

photo 5 (3)‘Tis the season to get wrapped up, so we are going to show you briefly how to get wrapped up this season, Love Niche style

Scarves are a must have accessory during the AW months! However winter scarves can be quite difficult to get right and it can be hard to find a winter scarf that isn’t a chunky cable knit! In the studio we have an eclectic range of scarves, which are all very unique! They are versatile and you can generally wear them all year round!

(We have kept the outfit simple and all black so that you can see the scarf and how it has been worn!)

The Knot – This wool scarf is actually a chic novelty! It has a large tartan tiger printed on it, so when wearing this scarf we like to show off the tiger head! The best way we have found to show of detail, yet keep warm is to knot the scarf! (This style works really well when worn under a coat) The tartan print is a must have print of AW. This is quite a casual scarf, so we would suggest teaming it with jeans, either a plain blouse or jumper (to let the scarf stand out), then layered with your winter coat or even a fur! photo 1 (15)The neck wrap/drape – The Love Niche silk and fur pashmina scarves should be a signature accessory in any wardrobe! They are extremely versatile and we are still finding new ways of wearing them! However our favourites are the classics…the neck wrap or drape! When wearing your pashmina in these two ways, you are showing off the gorgeous unique prints and enjoying snuggling into the fur! As you can see Nisha has designed a wide contrasting collection this season with fun quirky prints and also stunning jewelled prints.photo 1 (14)photo 2 (17)If bold prints and colours just aren’t your thing, we also have a beautiful collection of silk embroidered pashminas. They are all very different, the one pictured below has been embellished with golden sequin flowers on each end of the scarf, so when draped you can see the detail front and back! They are perfect for adding a bit of glam to a fairly ordinary outfit! photo 4 (7)The body wrap – Pashminas are our favourite winter accessory, they are gorgeous as scarves and can also be used as beautiful wraps! The Love Niche signature silk pashmina is the perfect way to keep warm by covering up yet also looking super chic! Again, the fur will keep you warm, and the print certainly makes a statement! These are ideal when you’re looking for a little cover up on an evening out with friends, over your festive LBD! photo 3 (10)

How will you be wearing your scarves this winter?!

This week’s style tip.

photo (26)The Apple body type is most misconstrued shape with a lot of people thinking that it is the shape for a larger woman, this is so far from the truth! If you are an apple shape it means that you have a wider torso, therefor lacking a defined waist, you have broad shoulders, generally a fantastic bust, slim arms and legs and normally quite a flat bottom.

Now, to dress an apple shape it is pretty straight forward. You need to avoid billowing shapeless tops with no structure as they will make you look larger than you are as it has no waist definition, especially paired with black leggings as they make your slim legs look even slimmer! You should go for tops which have a built in waist for example try an empire line style as this will pull you in under your bust and skim over your stomach, a very flattering style for you! Also try a wrap top as they also give you definition. However if you were to wear a shapeless top then just pair it with a skinny belt so it will cinch in your waist giving your body shape. Remember you should try to go for longer tops which stop after your hips, tunics should be a staple in your wardrobe.

Necklines in dresses and tops; go for v-necks to show off some of that fantastic cleavage, plunging necklines, strapless or scoop necks also look good on you. Please avoid high necklines such as polo necks, off the shoulder, boat neck and halter necks are also not the greatest style for you. These will all make you shoulders look too broad, something you want to avoid.

Trousers and jeans look amazing on your with those fab pins! But avoid skinny black jeans, it will only make your legs look too slim making your proportions off. Try a bootcut or flare jean to balance out your shoulders. Straight leg trousers are always a winner too! To make your bottom look a bit fuller try going for jeans or trousers which have big pockets on the bum.

Now we have picked 3 looks for the studio for you to try. First up we have a work wear look. This look is perfect for autumn, the black oversized ‘coatigan’ is perfect for your shape as it still has structure, it is a longer style so it is an ideal length for you. The oversized collar creates a v slimming you middle. The white blouse looks great to create a monochrome look, again with a V-neck to flatter your bust. The trousers are slightly high waisted, which we recommend for your shape, they are slim leg but with the monochrome pattern they don’t make your legs look too slim. photo 1 (41)photo 2 (43)photo 3 (34)Being slightly top heavy you might feel like you can’t pull off a fur coat, however this ostrich feather coat is the ideal coat for you as it has a wide leather waistband to give your waist definition! It also has a V-neck so again this is very flattering for your shape. Teamed with slim leg black trousers this look is a winner for A/W! The dark blonde fur is also a fantastic colour this season. photo 4 (29)photo 5 (19)When picking an evening dress to wear we would recommend you picking mini or midi styles, to show off some leg! As these a/w months can get very cold so we have picked a midi to show you. This style is very flattering for you, it is fitted but not clingy and the black side panels give the illusion of an hourglass figure! The reptile print is a major trend this season also! The gold plate belt adds further waist definition. We have teamed it with one of our favourite fur pashminas and statement stud bag. photo 2 (45)photo 3 (36)

This week’s styling tip.

photo 1 (1)This is our second post in the body shape series, where we are focusing on the fabulous ‘Hourglass’ figure! The hourglass is classed at the ideal fantasy figure for a woman, with equal proportions, gorgeous curves, ample bust, slender waist yet still with hips, thigh and a good bum! This body shape might sound easy enough to style and think that with the good proportions they would suit everything, however it can actually be one of the most difficult shapes to dress right!

If you are an hourglass you may find that when you go into some stores, especially the higher end stores that it can be a challenge to find clothes that suit your shape, and this is because designers tend to make clothes for a straight up and down figure. If you like to wear luxurious clothes you will find it easier to shop in a luxury boutique/fashion studio.

This season every hourglass should have in her wardrobe; a fitted crisp white shirt ( the fitted shirt was made you!) a pencil skirt to show off those curves, either a wrap or an a-line skirt dress. Some killer jeans, steer away from a flare leg, however if you like bootcut jeans go for a dark wash and make sure they have large pockets on the bum. Straight/slim leg trousers and jeans work best for you as they show off your curves and legs, try to stay away from light wash jeans. The a-line skirt paired with a fitted top with flatter your figure to no end, wearing a dress or skirt with a slight peplum will also show off your curves however do not go over the top with the peplum as one with too much volume will just make your hips look larger than they are.

If you are a petite hourglass try and find slim trousers and jeans which are slightly high waisted as they will elongate your legs as well as drawing in your waist. Avoid clothes with no shape and definition as they will do nothing for your figure and if anything they will just make you look frumpy. Also avoid hip pockets as this will make you look disproportionate.

For the colder months when choosing your a/w coat, go for a coat which has a belt or a define waist, a mac is the ideal coat for you. Also try a cropped jacket/biker leather jacket (totally on trend!) by wearing a cropped jacket it will draw in your waist and show it off. Stay away from boxy jackets even if they are on trend this season!!

We have styled 3 outfits, 1 look with a pencil skirt, 1 with a dress and cropped fur and 1 trouser look, to show you how we would style your body shape during this season!

First we have a work wear look with a pencil skirt, which will hug your curves and show off your waist. This skirt is in a must have colour of the season; berry! We have teamed it with a fitted white shirt which has unique box pleat details around the neck and on the cuff of the sleeves. By adding one of our new belts that have just landed in the studio for A/W13 it has taken this look from day to night, finish this look off by adding a clutch, some heels and a berry lip.photo 1 (40)photo 3 (32)Next up is our autumnal dress look. This lightweight jumper dress is an extremely versatile piece to have in your wardrobe, you can dress it up or down, we have added a cropped berry fur bolero jacket which is gorgeous for your shape. We would finish this look with some earrings a slick ponytail and a heel. This dress has no waist definition so we have added a tan belt to draw in the waist to give more shape. Just because a dress has no definition at the waist does not mean that you can’t style it to suit your shape. photo 4 (28)photo 5 (18)Last is our trouser look. These casual trousers come in black, maroon, navy and a light brown and are perfect for hourglass and triangle shapes, they skim over the hips, are ever so slightly high waisted and are a straight cut so they don’t cling to your ankle. The faux leather waist band adds texture. We have dressed this look up slightly with a gorgeous black jumper which has beautiful embellished shoulders, everybody loves a bit of bling! Again to take this look to an evening we have added a clutch bag, also team with a heel, a red lip for a pop of colour and let your hair down. photo 2 (42)photo 3 (33)Which look do you like best?! Next week we will be doing a post for inverted triangles!

Makeover results!

Hello Ladies!

As you all know we held a very special competition last week, in conjunction with our fashion show at Jesmond Dene House, for one of you to win a £500 makeover with us at Love Niche, Sabai hairdressers and Charlotte makeup artist. We were taken aback by how many of you entered (we wish we could pick you all!) but the lucky lady who got picked out of the box was Judy Sherburn!

On the day of the fashion show we invited Judy to come into the studio for her styling session with Nisha. During the style session Nisha was able to put Judy in looks that were perfect for her body shape. Judy’s got very petite yet angular shoulders, a slender waist, with her thighs/hips being the largest part of her body, meaning that she would be classed as a triangle (read our style tip on triangle body shape here!). When styling you always try and create an hourglass figure. With Judy we had to balance out her shoulders to match her lower body. To do this we gave her dresses with shoulder pads or exaggerated shoulders to give the illusion of her shoulders being broader. With her having a slim waist we wanted to show that off, so we picked out dresses that either had a belt attached or had waist detail as to draw your eye in.

When picking Judy’s outfit we also had to look at her skintone, and see what colours would warm her and make her look more youthful with her colourings. We would put her in deep jewel colours such as emerald greens, rich deep reds, soft berry colours, and charcoal rather than black, nothing too bright and harsh.

Before her makeover (as you can see below) Judy had very ashy blonde hair, but Sabai softened it to give her more warmth and gave her a very sleek cut with an elongated bob so her hair went from bland to being stylish again. On the evening they curled her hair with a ghd which gave it volume. In the ‘after’ photo Judy look’s glowing!

Judy loved her makeover, and so do we! What do you think of her transformation?!

BEFORE                                               AFTER judy before and after

This week’s styling tip.

IMG_0335This is our first post in our body shape series; the pear shape. The pear shape is known as the classic womanly figure, however we don’t like to use the term pear shape as such. Pear shapes, as all other body shapes come in all sizes, so to stop confusion we like to class the ‘pear’ as a ‘triangle’ (nobody ever really enjoyed being compared to a fruit did they?)

The triangle body type is generally classified as having slender narrow shoulders, typically have a great bust and a slim waist (lucky you!) with your hips, bum and thighs being your largest part of your body.

It can be confusing dressing/styling a triangle shape as the contrast between the narrow shoulders and wider hip can be a difficult task to dress, however with our tips it should become easy and enjoyable.

As always with every season there are many styles and shapes which are the new must have shape to have in your wardrobe, however you need to evaluate your body and ask yourself “will i actually suit this trouser or skirt?” And most of all be honest with yourself! A triangle should try and avoid a straight up and down trouser that just falls from the hip as we feel this will just make your bottom half look bigger than it actually is (even if you are a very slim triangle!) So instead try and find a trouser like a peg leg trouser as an alternative to the skinny jean which will skim over your hips, wont cling to your legs but tapers in at your ankle which is the slimmest part of your leg, also try the combination of a bootcut flare jean with a wedge heel, this look is ideal for you as it makes your thighs look slimmer as the flared bottom is balancing your bottom half out, this means that your body will then look proportionate! For an evening or work trouser you should always go tailored and in a dark colour, and your jeans should never been a light wash, stick to stonewash and indigo jeans.

When trying to find the perfect dress, especially for the glitz and glamour season coming up, we recommend you try and find a dress which has shoulder pads, embellishment across the shoulders, or an off the shoulder dress. The bare shoulder look is huge this season is the perfect trend for you triangle ladies, embrace it!

Below we have chosen 3 of our favourite dresses we currently have in the studio to show you how we would dress a triangle shape.

First is this gorgeous striking emerald structured dress. This dress is a great dress for a triangle, as it has exaggerated shoulders to balance out your wider hips, the v neck is flattering for your bust and the belt is ideal as it shows off your slim waist by drawing the eye in. It skims over your larger hips and thighs instead of clinging which is another bonus. Teamed with some court shoes in a nude to elongate your legs and some statement earrings you are going to be turning heads.Green dress 1Green dress 2Our second look is a bit more daring, if you like bold prints and like to make a statement then this is the perfect dress for you! The mixed mono print of leopard and houndstooth is bang on trend this season, with both prints being a must have! This dress is extremely flattering even though it is a jersey fabric, with the wrap style knot detail it skims over stomach and hips. The v neckline is great again for the triangle as it balances out the narrow shoulders, and the buckle detail on the dress again draws your eye in to your small waist. Animal dress 1animal dress 2Our final look is a a more classic look, but with a twist (as always!) this faux matte leather dress is stunning in charcoal rather than black. Its a slim fit dress yet skims over the hips and doesn’t cling! The secret shoulder pads balance out the hips and the deep v neckline again is very flattering. The gunmetal studded waist detail acts like a belt and cinches in the middle to show off that slender waist. photo 3 (17)
