How to dress for your silhouette in Autumn/Winter

If you’ve read our last post you might just be that little bit more excited for Autumn/Winter to come! We’re not wishing summer away but we thought a quick guide on how to dress for your silhouette before the new stock arrives could be useful!

Layering is key when it comes to Autumn/Winter trends and the trick is to compliment your own body shape as sometimes a lot of layers can be a little unforgiving. Here’s a couple of tips to adapt these trends as per your body shape

Untitled-41

Apple

If you have a fuller section in the middle of your body you may want to avoid tight fabrics and forget the belt under your ribs it only makes the body look massively disproportional.First option is to try tailored trousers with slightly loose tops although avoid boxy masculine tops which are on trend this season and they can be very tempting, however try to keep away from them. You want to draw attention to other features such as your legs. Also this A/W, Blanket coats are one to watch for this silhouette shape.

Pear

If you find your hips and bottom look wider than the rest of your body you may prefer straight leg trousers as skinny or wide leg might enhance the appearance. To balance things visually try Jackets or tops with heavy embellishment and try to draw attention to  your waist, these are key for A/W and Decorative Zips are a big trend this year.

Top Heavy

The aim is to accentuate your bottom half  and minimise your top half creating a balance

If you are larger in the bust than hip you may feel unbalanced visually however this is easily corrected. Long sleeves are a key trend to watch out for & tops that are simple or smaller prints/block colours are perfect for this AW 14. Cardigans & Chunky knits are a good idea  especially to wrap up for autumn and winter. But try and avoid detail on the shoulders, neckline however embellishment on the base line can really help to balance out your silhouette.

Straight

If you have a slim or as they call it ‘boyish’ shape then you can create curves with structured waists & dresses. Belts are a key trend for you this Autumn/Winter. Also sixties A line shift dresses. Sixties are going to be a big trend for AW. Normcore is also a big trend this season, the tailored ‘smart look’ will really accentuate your height if you are tall. Long sleeve tops are good for extra slim arms and will keep you wrapped up warm this Autumn/Winter.

Hourglass

if you have an a fuller bust, curvy hips but a killer waist then you’ll find you have the hourglass shape. Blanket coats with a belted waist are key for you this season as it is important to draw attention to your best features thus being your waist. High rise pencil skirts & figure hugging knits can also show off & balance out your silhouette.Although boxy and masculine styles might be on trend this AW, try and avoid these as they will not show off your silhouette to its full potential.Monochrome is a good trend this season and is definitely one to wear for the hourglass shape!

DETAIL: Accessories such as Heavy embellished scarves & belts are ones to watch out for. Also floral corsages are making a return and all things folklore, these intricate details are amazing.Playful accessories are making a headline this winter from designers such as Christopher Kane & Anya Hindmarsh, from fluffy & furry shoes to supermarket themed tote bags.

SILHOUETTE: Overall the silhouette shape this season is boxy, oversized and quite masculine but still with plenty of feminitiy.Layered Blanket coats are back along with luxury ponchos, capes and wrap over coats. Theses styles are multi textured, heavy weight and will keep you wrapped up nice and warm this winter. The Tailored look is back again however this time they are softened by being loosely shaped. If you Feel like something more comforting,Woollen knits have taken on a new shape this year with 3d loops,Frills chunky cable knits &chunky ribbing  for a more fun look.

Get The Look: White Out

love niche fashion

It’s the perfect time to wear the white trend H to T, lightweight fabrics to let skin breathe with a mix of full skirts and tailored shapes.

Worn day or night this look is easy to achieve, the trick is to compliment your own body shape as sometimes white can be a little unforgiving. Here’s a couple of tips-

Apple

If you have a fuller section in the middle of your body you may want to avoid tight fabrics and forget the belt under your ribs thing, it only makes the body look massively disproportional. I usually find those with apple shapes have great legs so wear tailored shorts or slim trousers and pair with a loose top with a v neck to draw the eye down instead of across.

Pear

If you find your hips and bottom look wider than the rest of your body you may prefer straight leg trousers as skinny or wide leg might enhance the appearance. To balance things visually try a top with structure or embellishment across the top. It’ll detract and even the proportion of the body. If you have a curvy bottom and are happy to show it off I’d go with a pencil skirt and tailored jacket that sits on the hip. Anything too short and cropped on the top half will pull the eye down to the stomach and hip area.

Straight

If you have a slim or as they call it ‘boyish’ shape then you can create curves with structured waists and peplums. Make shoulders a feature and to give the appearance of more width by wearing a halter neck top and pair with a full skirt belted at the waist. It will show off that small section whilst the gathering of the material in the skirt will give the illusion of wider hips. Immediately you will shake off that Boyish tag!

Top Heavy

If you are larger in the bust than hip you may feel unbalanced visually however this is easily corrected. Try a boat neck or straight cut top, v necks pull attention to the bust so you may want to avoid that. Balance the lower section by adding a peplum skirt or wide leg trousers and slightly looser top. Anything too loose will drape over the bust creating an unflattering look.

Here’s a couple of ideas from the studio, the shoulder detail top is perfect for those balancing larger hips!

There’s 2 styles in the collection, The set below is very feminine and suitable for any age, the flattering swimsuit fades to a blue which Nisha has placed in the lower half to give the illusion of a slimmer bottom. LoveNiche Chats To Julien Macdonald

This month Newcastle NE1 hosted fashion week right here in the city center across a number of venues highlighting much of what us Geordies have to offer.

On Saturday the10th we attended the Company presents catwalk which celebrity Designer Julien Macdonald hosted. Alongside Julien were two of Company’s fashion team who introduced the show. You can see the images of what we showcased on that catwalk in our last post here.

On the evening Cruise were hosting a catwalk featuring Vivienne Westwood’s collection so team Love Niche headed over. In a last minute decision we decided to go all out and wear super glamorous dresses from Niche by Nisha Vedhara both of which received a huge amount of compliments.

After the show Julien came over to comment on the dresses which you can imagine was such an incredible compliment and then stood with us for pictures.

newcastle fashion week

After the show we all headed next door to Bonbar for cocktails and chats, true Sex in the City style in our dazzling dresses!

Whilst in the VIP area Julien and the lovely Company fashion writers invited us to join them, we ordered more drinks, canapés and discussed fashion, how Nisha got into the industry and Julien’s path to stardom. I have to say that during that hour or so I felt so inspired and drawn to Julien’s charisma and humble attitude. He asked about each of us and took a photo of my ear cuff for inspiration!

Calling us the ‘Glam Squad’ he asked us for a picture for his instagram, which we of course obliged,  I mean not every day fashion royalty asks YOU for a picture…
